Rising
from the ashes of the Sydney nu wave scene, Captain Kaine has had
an infamous life within the Australian music industry.
Raised on the sounds of jazz & soul music, the artist formerly
known as $coota studied guitar at the Australian Institute of Music
while playing in various rock bands and forming the notorious cabaret
funk outfit, Sugardaddy.
After returning from an overseas trip which changed his ideas about
the creation of music he decided to move to Byron Bay. Assembling
a midi /hard disc recording studio, he began making tracks specifically
designed to make you shake your booty.
A collaboration with Bulli led to the tune "3001" being
released on the Edgecore label compilation to critical acclaim.
This was also the beginning of his dj career, rocking full moon
beach/ forest parties with his electrifying beats.
Due to the lack musical diversity in the outdoor party scene, Captain
Kaine & his partner in crime Mr Nice decided to promote their
own nights at Byron's most decadent venue, the Cotton Club. These
included License To Thrill, Cained, Thank God Its Friday, Too Hot
Too Trot & Afronomical.
He has also featured at events such as Ultravixen, the Milehigh
Club, What Da Funk, Schoolgirl Fling and Escape while having residencies
at La La Land, Liquid Nightclub, Buddha Bar, Cocomangas, the Byron
Bay Beach Hotel, the Backroom (Hotel Great Northern) & the Ballina
Hotel.
Captain Kaine has played alongside internationals like Felix Da
Housecat, Sharam Jey, Mike Monday, Sucker dj's, Adam Freeland, Stanton
Warriors, Tayo, BLIM, Jose Padilla & Jon Sa Trincha as well
as locals Cut Copy, Endorphin, the Cat Empire, 1200 Techniques,
Machine Gun Fellatio, Soma Rasa, the Bang Gang, Tommy Trash, Mark
Dynamix, Groove Terminator, Illya, Kate Munroe, Abel El Toro &
Scott Pullen.
He was featured at festivals including Adventjah (with his own live
act, Blissbomb), Gatecrasher (with Green Velvet & De La Soul),
annually at Splendour In The Grass (with Krafty Kuts, Blackalicious,
Goldfrapp & most recently the Scissor Sisters) & Exodus.
Captain Kaine has also made guest appearances at Family & the
Empire in Brisbane, played DCM & Kinselas in Sydney as well
as Revolver & Bond in Melbourne.
Even more recently cK has been in Berlin & was invited to play
at Kubik which he did to a rapturous response.
As Kaz James from the Bodyrockers says "Captain Kaine is one
of the best Australian dj's I have seen. His mixing skills are world
class!"
To put it simply Captain Kaine's eclectic style has given him a
reputation for shaking the foundations of any dance floor, anywhere,
at any time!
